Doctrine

We gladly join with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the ages in affirming the orthodox tenets of the Christian faith, expressed in both the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. We also hold to additional biblical truths as expressed in our Statement of Faith below.

  • Apostles’ Creed

    I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

    Creator of heaven and earth.

    I believe in Jesus Christ, his only-begotten Son, our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary;

    suffered under Pontius Pilate;

    was crucified, dead, and buried;

    he descended to hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;

    from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

    I believe in the Holy Spirit;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints;

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • Nicene Creed

    We believe in one God, the Father Almighty,

    Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

    And in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

    the only-begotten Son of God,

    begotten of the Father before all worlds;

    God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God;

    begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father,

    by whom all things were made.

    Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven,

    and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary,

    and was made man;

    and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;

    he suffered and was buried;

    and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures;

    and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father;

    and he shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead;

    whose kingdom shall have no end.

    And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life;

    who proceeds from the Father and the Son;

    who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified;

    who spoke by the prophets.

    And we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

    We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins,

    and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

  • Statement of Faith

    • We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the ultimate and infallible authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be measured.

    (2 Timothy 3:16-17; John 17:17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:160; Isaiah 40:8)

    • We believe in one true and living God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 1:17; Isaiah 45:18; Matthew 28:19; Matthew 3:16-17; John 15:26)

    • We believe man was created in the image of God and the sin of Adam tragically marred that image, creating an eternal divide between God and man. As descendants of Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God and deserving his wrath.

    (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:1-7; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-19; Ephesians 2:1-3)

    • We believe that salvation comes only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, whose atoning death on the cross was the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His sinless life, his substitutionary death, his victorious resurrection, his glorious ascension, and his promised return are the substance of all our eternal hope. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12).

    (John 3:13-18; 1 Peter 2:24-25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 6:23; John 14:1-3)

    • We believe all who are saved into Christ Jesus are born again by the Holy Spirit – sealed and adopted as heirs in the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit indwells, illuminates, guides, equips, and empowers believers to bear fruit for Christ-like living and service.

    (Ephesians 1:13-14; Romans 8:9-17; John 14:16-17; John 16:13-14; Galatians 5:22-24)

    • We believe in the personal, visible, imminent return of Jesus to judge mankind and to receive His people to Himself. Ultimately, those apart from Christ will be consigned to everlasting conscious punishment, while those in Christ will experience fullness of joy in God’s presence for all eternity.

    (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:2; Luke 12:35-40; Matthew 18:8-9; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 21:3-4; Revelation 22:20)

    • We believe the ordinances of the Church, given by the Lord, are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion).

    (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30)

    • We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

    (Galatians 2:20; Matthew 22:34-40; Philippians 3:7-8; Psalm 16:2; Psalm 63:3; Matthew 6:33)
